Lourdes Health Names Kimberly Edwards as DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses Recipient

Lourdes Health is pleased to announce that Kimberly Edwards, a Registered Nurse at Lourdes Surgical Specialists, has been named as a recent recipient for The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses at Lourdes Health.

Kim was nominated by a Lourdes staff member that noticed the continuous diligence and effort she made to contact a post operative patient. They noted she is an amazing nurse who is always a team player by how she continuously teaches others about compassionate patient care.

The staff member who nominated her wrote, “When the nurses and staff from general surgery could not get ahold of a patient via phone and numerous voicemails, our clinic manager was considering calling in a welfare check on the patient after multiple voicemails and attempts to contact the patient had failed. Kim was at the office late and tried reaching out to the patient a few more times as well as making attempts to contact the family with no success. As worry set in with the staff, Kim graciously offered to go to the patient’s place of residence to check on her. When Kim arrived the patient and her son were home and well. The patient and her family were very grateful that Kim had made the decision and made an effort to check on the patient. Kim is always willing to go above and beyond for patients and staff.”

The DAISY Award® is an international program started in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, whose family experienced first-hand the difference his nurses made in his care through clinical excellence and compassionate care. The family created The DAISY Award® to express gratitude to nurses and to enable other patients, families, and staff to thank and honor their special nurses.
