Lourdes Medical Center Introduces Autonomous Floor-Cleaning Robot
July 29, 2026
More than a month after welcoming "Scrubsy" to its Environmental Services team, Lourdes Medical Center is celebrating the successful integration of its state-of-the-art autonomous floor-cleaning robot developed by Peppermint Robotics. Since beginning daily operations, Scrubsy has enhanced cleaning efficiency while allowing Environmental Services staff to devote more time to detailed cleaning, infection prevention efforts, and other essential support activities throughout the hospital.
Before joining daily operations, the robotic cleaner was named through a staff-wide engagement process in which employees submitted and voted on potential names. "Scrubsy" emerged as the clear favorite, reflecting the collaborative culture that defines Lourdes Medical Center.
Designed to autonomously clean large floor areas, Scrubsy uses advanced navigation and cleaning technology to deliver consistent floor care in high-traffic healthcare environments. By taking on routine floor-scrubbing tasks, the robot supports Environmental Services staff in maintaining the high standards of cleanliness that patients, visitors, and caregivers expect.
"This investment in autonomous cleaning technology strengthens our ability to maintain a high-quality care environment while supporting the important work our Environmental Services team performs every day," said Brian Sims, CEO of Lourdes Health. "Scrubsy is not replacing the human element of care, it is enhancing it by allowing our staff to focus their expertise where it is needed most."
Scrubsy’s successful implementation reflects Lourdes Medical Center’s continued commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and a safe, welcoming environment for all who enter its doors. Hospital leadership sees the addition as an example of how practical technology can support frontline healthcare teams by improving efficiency while reinforcing the vital role of skilled caregivers in delivering exceptional patient care.
