From the Patients

Kelly J.

Richland, WA

"Dr. Shallman was my surgeon when I had a biopsy in 2006. He had to remove a lymph node from my neck and so he did the incision right on the natural crease in my neck. You can't even tell  there's a scar unless I point it out. He was very good about bearing bad news. I had cancer. But he didn't say the word "cancer." He said "I think you have lymphoma" and that it was easy to treat and that my chances of recovery would be very good. He then told me that the usual course of treatment was chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It wasn't until that point that I knew it was cancer. So I think he went about telling me in the best way possible. One of the nurses was telling me that he had done a carpel tunnel surgery on someone who had a tattoo on their arm and he lined it up perfectly and you could barely see the scar running down the middle of the tattoo."
