The Children’s Day Program food drive at Lourdes will be collecting food items throughout the month of July.
According to the article, Hunger Doesn’t take a Vacation: Summer Nutrition Status Report 2015, we rank 37th out of 50 states in reaching low-income children with summer nutrition. Only 1 in 10 eligible kids access summer meal programs.
Summer day program gives students an opportunity to attend outings in the community such as local parks, mini-golfing, bowling, the police station, roller skating, the planetarium, free movies, and Get Air! Several students have shared that they have never been to some of these places before. Families are invited to all outings and students are given an opportunity to practice skills taught during the week with family members as well.
During the month of July 2015, children’s summer day program will be teaming with 2nd Harvest of Tri-Cities and collecting food at various Lourdes locations.
